During this two-part unit, participants will learn about best practices and the importance of assessment in special education. Unit modules will explain the steps in the special education process including sequencing and connected timelines, define types of assessment (formative, summative, formal) and assessment domains (academic, communication, motor, etc.) with examples. Through the development of a toolkit, participants will demonstrate proficiency with various assessment tools, knowledge of the eligibility criteria for Part B and Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, identify the role of families, and administer and interpret progress monitoring tools and formal assessments.
