Course Description

This 4-hour virtual course will help you turn your carbon footprint result into a message and strategy to further your organization’s sustainability goals. We will present strategies for interpreting, communicating, and utilizing your results to manage your footprint and move toward climate change solutions for your organization. This course will explore the following topics:

  • How to interpret your greenhouse gas inventory results, including identifying which sources are the most important and where there are opportunities for reductions.
  • Strategies for communicating your footprint results, including identifying your audience(s) and developing your messaging.
  • Guidelines for setting a carbon footprint reduction goal, including how to conduct scenario analysis, how to set a target year, and how to track your progress.
  • Common challenges with tracking footprints, including changing system bounds.

We will demonstrate these concepts using SIMAP (www.unhsimap.org), a carbon and nitrogen footprint tool that is hosted by the UNH Sustainability Institute.

This course will include presentations from the instructors, breakout group discussions, hands-on data exercises in breakout groups, and Q&A sessions. We recommend that you take “Introduction to Carbon Footprinting” and “Carbon footprinting: Data collections and calculations” before this course. If you’d like to take this course first, please contact the instructors.

This course will be offered for free to UNH students. If you are interested, please contact Allison Leach (Allison.Leach@unh.edu) for more information.
