Course Description

Approved for 1.5 CEUs for Surveyors through the NHLSA.

The ALTA standard for positional tolerance in boundary surveying has evolved through multiple revisions that has improved its use in survey practice.  The driving force behind the positional tolerance standard is the use of least squares analysis to define the quality of one’s field measurements.  This becomes complex in a survey measurement world where not all of our field techniques like RTK or RTN GNSS appear to lend itself to this process.  This seminar will start with conventional real total station data in passing of the standard.  It will then illustrate the network concept of post processed GNSS in passing positional tolerance, and finally will utilize RTN GNSS data in accomplishing the same goal.  The concepts of relative vs. absolute error ellipses and how 95% confidence is achieved will be themes throughout the discussion.  The seminar is very question/answer oriented.
