Course Description

Course Overview

In this course, participants will explore the foundational tenets of trauma-informed music teaching and learning. Although this course is specifically designed for K-12 music teachers, teachers from all content areas, disciplines, and levels of teaching experience are welcome. In these interactive, discussion-based sessions, participants and facilitators will explore research-based approaches to trauma-informed practice as well as lived experiences that may offer support to students and teachers alike. Join us as we explore this relevant, timely, and important topic!

Learning Objectives

As a result of this course, attendees will:

  1. Explore different definitions of trauma and trauma-informed pedagogical techniques;
  2. Examine the many ways in which trauma can manifest in the music classroom;
  3. Explore core tenets of trauma-informed practices and their application to music teaching & learning;
  4. Explore avenues through which they may purposefully incorporate trauma-informed instruction into their music classrooms & interactions with students.
