Course Description

As organizations get a handle on their direct carbon emissions (scope 1) and purchased electricity emissions (scope 2), they are increasingly turning their attention to all other indirect emissions: Scope 3. This broad category includes all upstream and downstream emissions associated with an organization’s activities, such as commuting, business travel, purchased goods, and investments. Scope 3 is often the largest emissions source for an organization, making it an important opportunity for influence and leadership.

In this four-hour virtual course, we will provide guidance for calculating your scope 3 carbon footprint. The course will include the following topics:

• Overview of scope 3 sources
• How to determine which scope 3 sources to include
• Best practices for data collection and processing for common scope 3 sources, including commuting, business travel, waste and purchased goods
• How to account for changing scope 3 sources in your boundaries and goals

* We strongly recommend taking Introduction to Carbon Footprinting and Carbon Footprinting: Data Collection and Calculations (or equivalent in experience) prior to taking this course.
