Workshop 1: Showcasing your hard work: An introductory workshop for effective curriculum vitae development

Crafting an impactful curriculum vitae (CV) is essential for showcasing your achievements and securing opportunities in academia and beyond. This workshop provides graduate and post-doctoral students with foundational tools and insights into CV development. Participants will explore different types of academic institutions and learn how to tailor their CVs accordingly. Topics include the five major CV sections, big-picture advice, essential formatting dos and don’ts, and practical strategies for highlighting accomplishments effectively. Featuring examples of a professor’s CV and personalized one-on-one help sessions, this engaging and interactive session equips attendees with the skills to create a polished and professional CV that stands out to prospective employers. Workshop 2: Keeping It Real: Proven Strategies for a Successful Academic Job Interview

Preparing for an academic job interview can be both exciting and daunting, but with the right strategies, you can stand out as a top candidate. This workshop is designed to equip graduate and post-doctoral students with the tools and confidence needed to navigate the academic job interview process. Participants will explore key topics such as setting themselves up for success before the interview, mastering both pre- and Zoom-interviews, effectively answering top interview questions, and showcasing strengths in teaching, research, and service. The session will also provide guidance on professional follow-up techniques to leave a lasting impression. Join us to gain insider tips and actionable advice to ace your academic job interview and take the next step in your career with confidence! 

Workshop 3: Keeping It Real: Strategically Negotiating, Enhancing, and Solidifying Your Academic Job Offer

Negotiating your academic job offer is a critical step in shaping your career trajectory and doing it strategically can set you up for long-term success. This workshop empowers graduate and post-doctoral students to navigate the negotiation process with confidence and poise. Participants will learn the art of negotiation, including what to ask for—distinguishing between one-time and recurring costs—and how to effectively handle pivotal conversations, such as the department chair call. Additional topics include leveraging a counteroffer and understanding the impact of gender dynamics in the negotiation process. Join us to gain actionable insights and strategies for enhancing and solidifying your academic job offer while advocating for your professional and personal goals.
