TTC-T-24 - Lines, Levels & Layouts
Course Description
This program was designed with small town and city road departments in mind. In this fast-paced workshop, learn the basics of field measurement. The instruction will be simple, practical, and include "hands-on" fieldwork. If possible, bring a calculator and/or "pop" level.
Topics reviewed will include:
- Familiarize students with the use of various types of levels
- Auto level, transit, rotary laser, “pop “ level.
- 2’, 4’ levels both traditional and “smart”
- Types of measuring tapes and other tools such as plumb bobs, string lines, hammers, frost pins
- Practice shooting grades to find difference in elevation, pipe slope, determine pitch of roadway cross sections.
- Layout
- Culvert replacement
- Catch basin/manhole install or replacement
- Explain and demonstrate how to square an area for excavation
- Field books and notetaking
- Plan reading
- Identify features of the plan
- Explain the different views
- Plan, Cross section, Profile
Coffee and donuts will be available in the morning, and lunch will be provided.
Withdrawal Policy: In the event that you are unable to attend a program for any reason, please note you must submit your withdrawal via email to T2.Center@unh.edu or via phone message to 603.862.1362 at least 72 hours in advance of the start of a program to receive a refund. If a withdrawal is not received by UNH T2 at least 72 hours prior to the program start, the full program fee will be charged and is nonrefundable. Substitutions are allowable at any time, and UNH T2 staff will be happy to assist in registering an alternative attendee from your organization at no cost.
