Course Description

SAFETY - 5 hours / TECHNICAL - 6  hours

THIS IS A TWO DAY WORKSHOP. Once you enroll in your preferred DAY 2 date (See available Sections), you will be auto-enrolled in the associated DAY 1 date (NOT listed). Attendance is required on both days (mandatory attendance on Day 1 in order to attend Day 2). 

Learn how to operate a grader with an in-classroom day to review crown, basic grader function and safety, inspection, and second one day in-the-field "hands-on" training. Basic blading techniques and routine grader maintenance will be taught, as well as instructor-led training "on the grader". The class will be small, so participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the instructors.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate best management practices (BMPs) of safety and operation.
  2. Demonstrate basic grader maintenance techniques and practices.
  3. Demonstrate basic blading techniques.
  4. Select the appropriate materials to grade a gravel road.
  5. Demonstrate safety techniques.
  6. Identify maintenance needs.
  7. Read the road to apply best materials and application.
