TTC-S-92 - Work Zone Essentials

Course Description

The number of work zone crashes has risen throughout the country’s roadways, and although many contributing factors to this dangerous trend are human behavior based such as distracted driving or speeding, there are many things you can do to support work zone safety as a team member in the work zone. This session will review some of the best practices in communicating with your team members during flagging and other work zone operations, working around heavy equipment, spotter and flagger basic responsibilities, and more. It's developed for someone new to working in a work zone, or someone seeking a refresher to best practices to support team safety in work zones.

We will also review universally recognized controls in work zones that motorists are familiar with, standards referenced in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) as well as the basics of work zone layout on low-volume, single lane roads.

After this session, attendees will be able to:

• Identify Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) concepts and standards
• Communicate the importance of work zone traffic control and safety
• Identify different sections of a temporary traffic control zone
• Recognize proper Flagging and Traffic Control procedures for common situations in the field
