Course Description

Did you leave lead and arsenic behind when you finished your high school or college chemistry course? What have you heard about these naturally occurring elements in recent months? Our presenter was prompted to think again about lead, for example, when she learned that children were becoming ill from applesauce and that the Consumer Protection Agency had issued a recall of some children’s applesauce in a pouch. Before that, we heard about serious exposure from lead in drinking water in Flint, MI. In the first session of this two-part course, we’ll look at lead as a toxin in food, water and the home environment in terms of sources, health impacts and regulations. In the second session, we’ll discuss the toxin, arsenic, with the same approach. NH Arsenic is a special story!
