Course Description

Enrollment in AMSA Food Safety & Science Certification course with UNH is currently FREE due to funding by the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food with appropriations from the American Rescue Plan (ARPA) State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SFRF).

The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) Food Safety & Science Certification course verifies individuals possess an in-depth knowledge of food safety procedures and standards necessary to thrive in the food industry.

The certification validates the expertise and skills needed to enter the meat and food industries. Those who earn the certification are more qualified and prepared to begin a variety of food handling, food storage, and food safety careers. Additionally, the certification allows employers to identify and connect with more skilled candidates, filling gaps in the labor market and jumpstarting individuals’ careers.

The AMSA Food Safety & Science Certification course takes place online in self-paced modules.  The course includes a total of 150 hours of content which learners have 6 months to complete, but learners independently review content and work at their own pace.  Learners must have access to a computer with internet to participate. 

In order to successfully complete the course, learners must successfully pass (scoring 70% or higher) a 100 question examination that assesses knowledge and concepts from the course content. Those who successfully pass the examination will receive:

This course is part of the UNH Meat Processing & Food Safety Certificate program, but you don’t have to be part of the certificate program to enroll in this course.
