Course Description

Every year, nearly 12,000 people die in crashes when their vehicle leaves its travel lane on a rural road.  That’s 30 people today, and every day. In this 90-minute session, we’ll review safety countermeasures and approaches proven to reduce these deaths, and how local agencies can focus on reducing rural roadway departures (FoRRRwD) in their areas.  Systemic application of proven roadway departure countermeasures can save lives on all rural roads. All of us need to be a part of achieving zero deaths on our state highways, and addressing rural roadway departures is a critical part of that.
