Course Description

The workshops listed here are only available for students who have applied and been accepted into the 2024 Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT).

Workshop #1: Brainstorming Writing Prompts
Date:
Wednesday, January 24th
Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: MUB room 338
Description: This writing session will include a series of writing prompts (questions about your research) to help you articulate the focus of your research and why it’s important. At the end of the workshop you will have a draft of your 3MT talk.

Workshop #2: It's All About Presentation
Date: Wednesday, January 31st
Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: MUB room 338
Description: Aimee Blesing, Senior Lecturer in Acting, Voice & Movement here at UNH, will share techniques and tips for successful public speaking with a focus on the Three-Minute Thesis. You'll learn the key components of successful public speaking, including body language and how to prepare your voice with the ultimate goal of decreasing anxiety associated with public speaking. 

Workshop #3: Polishing Your 3MT Slide
Date: Wednesday, February 7th
Time: 12:00 - 1:00 PM
Location: Zoom (optional group screening in MUB room 338)
Description: Zen Faulkes, the writer of the Better Posters blog and Better Posters book will help 3MT presenters apply the principles of effective visual communication and polish their 3MT slides.

Workshop #4: 3MT Practice Round
Date: Friday, February 16th
Time: 3:00 - 5:00 PM
Location: Tideline Public House: Crow's Nest
Description: This event is a practice run for the main 3MT competition, and a great way to share your work with the greater community! All are welcome to attend as guests. 3MT participants should register to speak, and then invite their friends! Come hone your speaking skills and get valuable feedback from judges! Prizes will be awarded to the top three presentations.

Workshop #5: 3MT Fast Feedback
Date: Wednesday, February 21st
Time: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: MUB room 338
Description: This the final opportunity to practice your 3MT talk and get feedback before the competition.
