Course Description

Course Overview 

This course will be about how to compose your grant narrative in a way that best positions your project for foundation decision-makers. We will learn what grantmakers are motivated by and some of the factors that go into difficult decisions of what to fund. Funders always have more requests than resources. How do you make your request description stand apart? We will also talk about tips on budget preparation and its relationship to your project narrative. The intended audience for this course are people who have already written proposals, that may or may not have gotten funding. Feel free to bring in a proposal you have already written for us to critique as a class, if time allows.  

Learning Objectives 

1.  We will learn how funders think and how to make sure you don’t make the top five most frequent mistakes in grantwriting.

2.  We will learn why and how a clear project budget is so important to a winning proposal

3.  How best to communicate with funders, as well as what not to do.
