Please Note: Although the box on the right may indicate "This course is currently unavailable," please read below to begin the application process. Use the Dinah Whipple STEAM Academy Application link below to submit an application.
The Dinah Whipple STEAM Academy (DWSA) is an immersive educational program that explores science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM), as well as the Black experience. The program will take place on the UNH Durham campus, providing students with access to state-of-the-art facilities, advanced technology and award-winning faculty. It is offered through UNH Tech Camp Durham, which has been providing dynamic, experiential summer programs for middle and high school students for more than a decade. The program is free and open to all levels of experience.
This summer, new and returning DWSA campers will have several project options to choose from. Each has a unique science or engineering focus, and all will incorporate discussions on Black history and Black contributions to STEM. Review the Session Descriptions block below for more information.
Space in the program is limited. To be considered for one of the available spaces, please refer to the Registration Process.
Registration Process:
- Submit a DWSA Application. The application will be open until May 1, 2025 at 5pm unless full earlier. Space is limited in all programs.
- Submitting an application does not automatically enroll the student into the program. If accepted, families still need to complete the online registration.
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and families are typically informed of their acceptance status via email within three weeks of submitting an application.
- Once a student has received notice of admission, review the 'How to Enroll' tab below. If your child has received financial assistance, you will be provided a code to input in your shopping cart during initial enrollment.
- Do not enroll here unless you have received notice of admission from a Tech Camp staff member via email. If a student enrolls without applying and being accepted, the enrollment will be dropped.
- Enrollments must be completed by June 1, 2025.
Commuter and Overnight options are offered. Camp runs 8:30am-4pm for commuter students. For overnight campers, this week begins on Sunday evening, July 20.
Details regarding drop off locations, times, and other information are sent via email from program staff to enrolled participants prior to the session start date. Please be sure the email address provided while enrolling is that of a parent/legal guardian, not the participating student.
