Course Description

First-year and early career teachers often feel overwhelmed and alone as they navigate the transition from their own college education program, and supervised teaching, to their own autonomous classrooms. This yearlong certificate course helps to bridge this gap by supporting their continued development from new teacher to confident educator. Led by an experienced teacher mentor, this cohort of teachers will learn strategies to develop their own classroom teaching and management style, as they support each other through the year. Intended for grades 3-12 teachers.

Participants will:

  • Explore and develop their own plan for setting up their classroom, considering the physical set-up, supplies needed, visuals, and differentiated students’ needs.
  • Be able to create and implement adaptive classroom management plans and setting clear expectations for a productive, positive classroom environment.
  • Create a time management strategy for themselves to include school responsibilities and a healthy work-life balance.
  • Develop strategies for planning and adjusting classroom lessons to fit their students and the needs of the curriculum.
  • Feel more prepared for the school year as a first-year, or early career, teacher.
  • Have a supportive and consistent mentored cohort to troubleshoot questions and issues as they arise during the school year.
