Course Description

Media Literacy provides a framework to access, analyze, evaluate and create messages in a variety of forms. Media literate individuals understand the role of media in society and have the skills to question the media they encounter so that they can be careful information consumers. This workshop helps middle and high school teachers support their students in an information-rich, online world. We will examine information overload and discuss student awareness (or lack of awareness) of their online skills. The workshop will consider current social media and news gathering trends for adolescents. It will provide practical lessons that can be included alongside traditional class content to encourage media literacy and student reflection on their information gathering.
