Course Description

When supervisors are asked “What is your biggest challenge as a supervisor?” one of the most frequent responses is “Dealing with different personalities.”

Often we see “different” as “difficult” because we’re not sure how to connect with people who see the world differently, and approach work and communication differently than us.

This results in unnecessary personality conflicts along with the added stress these create.

By learning how to transcend the differences between you and the people who “get under your skin,” you not only increase your personal effectiveness and reduce your stress level, you enable yourself to “Be The Change.”

You become a role model for others on how to become more collaborative, compassionate, and inclusive. You also model the language and behaviors that foster a cohesive and innovative culture, where people with diverse perspectives and approaches feel welcome to share their point of view and ideas.

This program is designed to help participants:

  1. Develop greater understanding of the cultural, generational, and personality style differences that shape a person’s worldview and behavior. This increases what former FBI hostage negotiator calls “Strategic Empathy.” Strategic empathy enables you to understand more accurately where others are coming from so you can communicate and collaborative with them more effectively.
  2. Reduce their susceptibility to getting triggered by people who operate differently from them. This not only reduces their daily stress level, but it also dramatically increases their ability to operate strategically and skillfully rather than reactively.
  3. Work more easily and collaboratively with a broader range of people. Participants will learn how to flex their interpersonal approach to connect more effectively with different types of people. They will also learn language patterns that communicate a desire to understand and an openness to alternative perspectives.
