Individuals with previous experience with violin repair or students who have participated in UNH Violin Set-Up I and II may attend this workshop. You will gain exposure to and experience in the most common types of repairs including: gluing of cracks in instruments, cleating, taking off and re-gluing the top, neck projections, bushing pegs, simple edge replacement, and basic retouching principles. Custom sound adjustments for musicians will be discussed. Students’ repair projects will be discussed as a class theme. Mr. Wiessmeyer will demonstrate various repair techniques and provide one on one personalized guidance daily to assist you through your repair project.
Classes meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with open workshop hours from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Materials and Tools
Two or three stringed instruments needing any of the above mentioned repairs. Please do not bring violins with integral bass bars or an integral neck or upper block. You should already be proficient in tool sharpening.
