TTC-V-0019 - Reading the Road for Safety - 2025
Course Description
This 4-hour training will teach participants how to “read the road” to identify potential safety concerns as part of their daily maintenance tasks. It will use real world examples on different roadway components to demonstrate how highway maintainers may be able to uncover potential safety issues during their routine activities, as well as the consequences daily activities of workers may have on safety. It will also introduce the NH Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and local agencies’ role in furthering its goals.
Goal: Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to “read the road” as well as understand the importance of doing so in daily activities.
Participants should be able to do the following at the end of the session:
- Define what is meant by “reading the road” for safety
- Identify potential safety issues or indications road users may have problems traveling or navigating a roadway
- Communicate what the NH Strategic Highway Safety Plan is and identify where local agencies may have a role in advancing its goals
Intended Audience:
