Course Description

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This program is scheduled as a face-to-face classroom training during the Fall 2020 semester, but may be moved online due to future recommendations for distance learning due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Any updates will be posted on this page and all enrolled students will be notified by email of any anticipated curtailments.

Often times, students are grouped together because they read at the same "level." But do those readers need the same instruction? Not always! Two readers reading at the same level could have very different strengths and weaknesses as readers. The running record provides a detailed map of what the reader does well and what he or she needs. We will review recording the record itself and then look at the three big components of the record: accuracy, fluency and comprehension to plan for instruction. Teachers will come away with a strong understanding of how to use running records to personalize instruction for every reader as well as a variety of strategies to strengthen accuracy, fluency and comprehension.
