The New England Hydric Soils Technical Committee has updated the 2004 Version 3 of the Field Indicators of Hydric Soils in New England Manual. The new 2019 Version 4 reflects the latest scientific data and advances in our understanding of what constitutes a hydric soil. It also combines the Field Indicators of Hydric Soils in the U.S., Version 8.0, 2016 and indicators in the Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: North Central and Northeast Region, Version 2.0, 2012. Students will receive and apply the new user-friendly: "A Field Companion to Field Indicators for Identifying Hydric Soils in New England", December 2019. This workshop will cover the step-by-step process for identifying hydric soils by examining several soil profiles in the field. Various pitfalls and difficulties of hydric soil identification will also be discussed.
