This workshop will provide an introduction to the sedges (Family Cyperaceae) of northeastern New England. Using a combination of indoor and outdoor instruction, this workshop will focus on understanding and recognizing the unique morphology of sedges, mastering much of the terminology of a technical key, and identifying common New England species in the field. Strategies and suggestions for identification within the genus Carex will be discussed. This workshop is for all experience levels. Please bring a hand lens and the following text to class: "How to Identify Grasses and Grasslike Plants by H.D.
