Course Description

In 2000, "all children will enter school ready to learn" became a national mandate. The National Education Goals Panel adopted this mantra and defined school readiness as mastery of a pre-determined set of skills. Current neuro-scientific research has found that readiness begins in the womb and is determined in large measure by the early life experiences and environment. This workshop examines school readiness from conception to the period of school adjustment, focusing on the 3 to 5-year-old child in a preschool or child care environment. Readiness does not happen at the same time or in the same way for all children.
