PDT-TchGN-02 - Competency-based Education: Overview and Action Steps (K-12)

Course Description

It is recommended that students enroll in both Part 1 (Competency-based Education: Overview and Action Steps (K-12))  and Part 2 (Competency-based Education Part 2: Action Steps) of this workshop series.

What is competency-based education? How is it different from what most schools are presently offering?

Competency-based education is a transformative model of instruction and assessment focused on learning outcomes. Students are assessed by demonstrating competence on stated proficiencies.

In this workshop, you will understand the history and purpose of the Carnegie Unit and NH's journey toward competencies. You'll leave with knowledge of the who, what, when, where, and how's of Competencies. Strategies for urging a move towards competency-based instruction and learning will be shared, along with ways to include all stakeholders in the process. During the workshop, you'll have time to create a basic plan and timeline for implementation in your classroom, school, or district.

Come prepared with materials such as your district's Competency documents.
