Course Description

The most highly regulated area of school law involves the education of children with disabilities. The intersection of Section 504, the American with Disabilities Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), is complex and ever evolving. This seminar is designed to provide you with current legal analysis and information on the rights of children with disabilities, primarily in public school settings. Topics include: who is eligible under these laws and in what ways do they differ; discipline of children with disabilities; out-of-district placements; increasing legal vulnerability; IEP development and implementation; and current legal trends. This seminar is highly interactive and you are encouraged to come prepared with issues you have faced in addressing the needs of children with disabilities.
