CPCD-CN-08 - Academic Job Search Workshop Series
Course Description
Workshop #1 - Keeping it real: Proven strategies for a successful academic job interview
Date: Monday, February 13th
Time: 1:00 - 2:30 PM
Location: MUB 334 and on Zoom (See your email for the zoom link)
Description: In this session we will review some of the top interview questions you may encounter, and how to respond authentically and appropriately. An interview is a two-way street, and by the end of our time together you will better understand how to navigate it (and how to follow up afterwards!). We discuss the demands of teaching, research, and service in the positions you may be interested in, and how to think and talk about your experiences that have prepared you for these faculty tasks.
Workshop #2 - Keeping it real: Strategically negotiating, enhancing, and solidifying your academic job offer
Date: Friday, March 10th
Time: 1:00 - 2:00 PM
Location: MUB 334 and on Zoom (See your email for the zoom link)
Description: In this session, you will learn about the art of negotiating once you have an academic job offer. We’ll discuss some items that you can negotiate for, including one-time asks and recurring benefits. From past iterations of this session, folks have been very curious about how to use the coveted counteroffer to their advantage, as well as how to negotiate a spousal hire. We will also talk about the context in which these negotiations occur, and how gender dynamics and other identities can influence the experience—and how you can help steer the conversation to better meet your needs and achieve your goals.
