Course Description

Art is often made in the service of power and religion, and the art of Iran and the Persian Empire is no exception. An understanding of a culture’s visual history can provide insight towards understanding its people today. This three-week course focuses on The Persian Empire, Persepolis, Greek and Roman Influences in week one; an introduction to Islam, Gardens, and Textiles in week two; and finally, in week three, a focus on contemporary art including cinema, protest art, and the Iranian diaspora.
