Course Description

This course can be taken for NH Roads Scholar credit any time in the month of April 2024 and proof of completion submitted to UNH T2 to receive credit. Refer to Receipt Notes for detailed instructions on how to access the course materials.

Many workplaces contain spaces that are considered to be “confined” because their configurations hinder the activities of employees who must enter into, work in, or exit from them. Construction workers (in process vessels or buildings), road crews (in excavations or tunnels), and others can easily find themselves in dangerous, confined space.

Employees who work in confined spaces face increased risk of exposure to serious hazards such as entrapment, engulfment, and hazardous atmospheric conditions. This course defines confined spaces and explains the safety precautions to help workers exposed to these spaces.

This course is part of the Construction Safety Awareness series, which focuses on job site safety and health hazards.

Target audience: The target audience for this training is anyone working in or near confined spaces.

Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe a confined space;
  • Explain the difference between a permit required and non-permit required confined space;
  • List the contents of an employer’s written program;
