This course focuses on the strategies that anchor effective management of gravel roadways, with emphasis on condition evaluation, data collection, data analysis, and decision-making activities unique to gravel road assets. The course concludes with a detailed case example of the development and application of a gravel road asset management program.

Local agencies and tribal governments need to know how their gravel roads perform and the different types of feasible maintenance, preservation, and rehabilitation options to ultimately maximize the value of their gravel roadway investments. The first step in this vital strategy is to comprehend the unique requirements of managing gravel road assets.

Asset management practices enable agencies to reduce the cost of maintenance, improve overall conditions, identify most traveled routes, and support decision-making and process efficiencies.

This course is intended for a variety of positions within local agencies and tribal governments, focused on those in decision-making roles and those providing input and information in support of decision-makers. Training includes:

1. Introduction to Managing Gravel Roadways

2. Evaluating Gravel Road Assets

3. Collecting Evaluation Data

4. Implementing a Gravel Roads Management System

The entire course takes approximately 3 hours to complete; each module is about 45 minutes. This course can be taken at your own pace. There is a final assessment at the end of this course, which you need to pass with a score of 70% or higher in order to access the evaluation and print your certificate.
