Course Description

Inquiry has been established as an effective means of teaching science.  The foundation of inquiry is in the science practices, the more learners can practice these skills the more adept they will become in inquiry.  As educators we can make small changes to our existing lessons and activities to incorporate science practices and allow learners to practice inquiry. This class facilitates educators to recognize that students need to be given more responsibility for aspects of their own learning to develop science practices necessary for inquiry.

The purpose of this class is to help teachers make “subtle shifts” or small changes to existing lessons and move towards practicing and using the tools of inquiry in the classroom. Teachers gradually shift to giving the learners more responsibility for using the science practices in the classroom.

*Instructors strongly recommend taking Inquiry Teaching Methods: Comparing Different Approaches to Hands-On Science and Inquiry Teaching Methods: Deep Dive into Science Practices before this workshop.
