Course Description

This course provides caregivers with information about the science of addiction, its impact on development, and the correlation between early trauma and substance misuse. Participants will examine statistics on drug and alcohol misuse among teens, as well as the types of substances most often used. This course explores the signs and symptoms of adolescent substance misuse and the protective factors caregivers can put into place to mitigate substance use and misuse. Treatment options and available community resources for youth and families struggling with substance misuse will be discussed. This 12-hour course is an elective offered as part of the Specialized Care Credential Series.
