Course Description

A large percentage of children-in-care have experienced trauma. While working in a residential placement, it is important to recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma and how to respond to youth in a trauma-informed fashion. The Development and Child Trauma class explores the stages of development and the different theories of development. Trauma impacts the way a child develops, and it can have lasting effects on a child?s mental health. Children-in-care have experienced grief and loss while being separated from their parents. Supporting children through the stages of grief is an important part of helping them develop and grow.
