Course Description

New England has a rich and complex geologic history, and nowhere is this more evident than in our Granite State. We will explore the physical geologic factors that make NH what it is, starting with its bedrock features and Appalachian Mountain heritage. But a majority of our focus will be on exploring the physical landscape we come into contact with daily. This includes the lingering effects of the last great glaciation – kettle holes, moraine and eskers, how open-water ponds turn into bogs, the constant effects of mechanical and chemical weathering, the influence of stream erosion, the shaping of our coast by tidal currents and wave actions, and finally the human impacts on our state’s landscape. All these are intertwined with our unique geologic heritage.
