PDT-BusPM-10 - PMI-CCR Strategic and Business Management Topics for Project Managers II
Course Description
This workshop will address two topics that meet the PMI Continuing Certification requirements in the Technical Topics and Leadership Topics areas.
The AM Session: Technical Topic: Quality Awareness. This session will focus on reviewing the quality issues in the U.S. during the last decades of the 20th century, the early formulation of the now-pervasive quality movement and the impact that it had, particularly upon the U.S. technology and automobile industries. We will look at the early leaders of the quality movement, and their contributions to the Japanese manufacturers who forced U.S. industrial giants to play catch-up after ignoring those same leaders for over a decade.
PM Session: Leadership Topic: Team Building: This session will provide a survey of current team-building tools and methodologies which help build team cohesiveness. Due to the time restrictions of a four-hour format, exercises used are short and some methodologies are discussed at a high level to inform participants of specific skills they may want to pursue. Brief instructional exercises will be employed to reinforce the principles introduced. Several current theories and their applications are introduced, including: McGregor's Theory X/Theory Y; Myers Briggs Type Index; Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs; Herzberg's Theory; and Situational Leadership. Participants who will most benefit are experienced project/program managers interested in quality management and Six Sigma, and those working in a team environment or managing project teams who want to increase effectiveness and understand team management at a deeper level.
(This workshop facilitates and satisfies the new Continuing Certification Requirements of the Project Management Institute (PMI). This workshop is not part of the UNH Project Management Certificate Program.)
