PDT-TchEC-10 - Laying the Foundation for Today's Standards (Pre K-K)

Course Description

Are you noticing the preschool curriculum looks more like kindergarten, shifting from a developmental to academic atmosphere? Do you also notice more behaviors, sensory sensitivities, and challenges with gross, fine and visual perceptual skills? In this workshop, we'll delve into the pros and cons of a developmental versus an academic classroom atmosphere. We'll explore how to meet the Standards in a playful, child-centered way, weaving colors, shapes, letters, sounds, numbers and more into the teaching environment. You'll look through an occupational therapist's eyes into why a developmental approach will support the foundation skills that all young students need to succeed.
