Course Description

Note: this workshop was formerly known as Facilitate Transition to College or Employment for Students with Learning and Social Differences. 

This workshop will increase your understanding of the complexities involved in helping students with learning and social disabilities become successful college students or employees. This population may include students with ASD, ADHD, NLD, Asperger's, as well as other students who may struggle with independence. They may be very bright and academically motivated but may need support as they prepare for college or work. For example, they may want to work but have difficulty getting past the interview. This workshop will help you learn how to encourage independence and self-advocacy with students that may have very different learning styles. You will discuss the social aspects of college and employment that may present difficulties for them and explore ways to help them overcome these obstacles. You will also discuss the importance of longterm planning for a successful transition.
