Course Description

Health education teachers, physical education teachers, curriculum coordinators, and administrators can support students in one of the most critical and meaningful ways--by helping them develop the skills they need to be healthy for a lifetime.

This workshop will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to implement a skills-based approach to health education. Topics covered will include the components of a skills-based approach to health education; strategies to apply a skills-based approach in the health education classroom; determining functional information based on data and curricular needs; and using authentic assessment strategies to determine skill proficiency. After this session, participants will be able to transition (or begin to transition) to an evidence-informed, skills-based approach to health education.

If you are ready to add skills into your health education program, this session is for you! Recommended reading: Benes, S. & Alperin, H. (2016) The Essentials of Teaching Health Education: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Human Kinetics.
