Course Description

Editing calls for careful, close, active, meticulous reading, which requires the development of good habits and instincts. Good editing involves vetting copy for factual errors or missing vital information; being vigilant for inconsistencies; fact-checking thoroughly; adhering to a stylebook to maintain professional standards; and flagging copy that is confusing, unclear, or in some cases, embarrassing. This workshop addresses the skills and strategies needed to assess one’s own work, and be a gatekeeper for the work of colleagues. Participants will leave with a thorough understanding of best practices in editing, and how to incorporate them into the workplace. Laptop or tablet with WiFi access required.
