Course Description

Learn the unique origin of Chinese characters, appreciate artistic calligraphy styles, and come away with some Chinese words to enrich our own visual language. The workshop goal is to broaden the understanding of language and the relationship between image and meaning.

Participants explore the connection between word and image and appreciate Chinese calligraphy as an art form. Most Chinese characters originated as pictorial script that depicted things and acts, conveying meanings in its specific culture. This workshop integrates history, cultural summary and hands-on exercise to encourage each participant to create unique artwork that bridge image and words. No prior experience required.
