AYP-CampRecSkate-01 - Learn to Skate: Level 1
Course Description
Learn to Skate offers youth participants a 3-session introduction to ice skating. Each session includes 35 minutes of instruction followed by 25 minutes of free skate. No previous skate experience is required.
These lessons focus on introductory skills, including:
- Sitting and standing on ice.
- Marching forward across the ice.
- Forward two-foot glides.
- Dips.
- Forward swizzles.
- Backward wiggles.
- Beginning snowplow stops.
- Bonus Skill: Two-foot hops in place.
All participants are required to wear a helmet (bicycle helmet is appropriate). Warm clothes, gloves, and water bottles are highly encouraged. Skate rentals are available. Please contact zoey.foote@unh.edu prior to registering to confirm size and availability.
Sessions are held at the Ice Level of the Whittemore Center Arena at Key Auto Group Complex, 128 Main St. Durham, NH. Additional information regarding program drop off and pick up will be sent via email the day before lessons begin by program staff.

To request a Drop or Transfer from a Youth Program, contact the program manager (info below). Please include the full name of the participant(s) and clearly state the program and session(s) to be adjusted. This does not guarantee a refund but alerts us that a drop has been requested. Campus Recreation does not offer refunds for Learn to Skate, including for missed lessons.
